About Sherwood Foundation for the Arts

SFA believes that a strong arts presence is vital for a healthy community and strives to nurture Sherwood’s creative aspirations – both individual and collective. Our annual summer and winter musicals cast local actors, musicians, and crew members and perform to thousands of patrons from around the tri-county area. Our annual puzzle competition brings the community together for a day of friendly competition each February. We put on these events and opportunities because we know the art inspires community to come together for the betterment of the whole.

Our Mission: SFA strives to nurture, promote, and support the theatre arts for the growth and enrichment of the community.

Many of the performances the SFA supports are held at the Sherwood Center for the Arts, which serves as the centerpiece of the Sherwood arts & culture community – a hub for cultural activity. The Center also serves as an upscale community center for the residents of Sherwood and the surrounding community.

SFA Board of Directors

Linda Henderson

SFA co-founder, Linda is a native Oregonian who attended Oregon State University for her undergraduate degree, received an MBA from the University of Oregon and spent nearly 10 years working in human resources at high technology firms. A Sherwood resident since 1998, Linda was elected to the Sherwood City Council in 2004 and 2008 and serves as the Council’s liaison for the Cultural Arts Community Center Steering Committee and the Sherwood Public Library. She is also a board member of the Friends of the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge. A passionate appreciator of the arts, Linda credits a neighbor who took her to see the Boise Philharmonic at age seven with planting the seed for a lifetime love of live performances.

Brian Stecher

After a successful career as a naval aviator and systems engineer, Brian retired and moved to Sherwood in 2007. Looking to become involved in the community, Brian jumped into volunteer service by becoming a member of the City of Sherwood Parks and Recreation Board and the Parks and Recreation Board representative on Sherwood’s Cultural Arts Community Center Steering Committee and the Tonquin Trail Steering Committee. In addition to his position with the Parks and Recreation Board and the SFA, Brian is a volunteer at Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum. He has been instrumental in the set construction for the SFA’s summer musical productions as well as the Voices for the Performing Arts production of “Annie.”

Christopher Flores

Christopher has been a Sherwood resident since 2010. Growing up in a very small Texas town, he was thrilled to find a place that had the same small town feel. In an effort to get involved in the community, he decided to revisit his love for singing and become more acquainted with his fellow Sherwoodians. In 2013 he joined the VPA’s Sherwood Chorale singing in their Christmas and Benefit concerts. The following year he auditioned for his first SFA Musical “Les Miserables and was cast as the Bishop and put in the Ensemble/ABC Gang. Christopher’s love for theatre was rekindled, and he was thrilled to be a part of the SFA Family. The next year, Christopher was able to check off an item on his bucket list by being cast as the Baker in “Into the Woods.” Growing closer and closer to his new SFA family, Christopher joined the SFA board and is thrilled to be a part of the performing arts planning which includes being the Production Manager for “My Fair Lady” and “Anything Goes”

When he is not busy with theatre life he volunteers as a City of Sherwood Planning Commissioner. Christopher also recently started his own event planning business, presentJoy Events + More, and is very excited for what the future holds.

Patrick Browne

Patrick grew up in Tigard and has been involved in the arts his entire life. He credits being cast and performing as Schroeder in his high school production of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown as the moment that sparked his passion for musical theatre. Presently he works as the Performing Arts Coordinator at the Multnomah Arts Center in SW Portland where he coordinates the music, theatre arts, dance, and literary arts programs. He first became involved with the SFA in summer 2022 as the director for their production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, and most recently directed their summer 2023 staging of The Addams Family.

Madeline Garland

Madeline first became involved with the SFA shortly after moving to Sherwood in 2012. She performed that summer in The Wizard of Oz, which renewed her love of theater and sparked an interest in dance. Since then she has been involved in almost every musical and play the SFA has produced, either as a cast member, a choreographer, or a photographer. She also founded the SFA Jigsaw Puzzle Competition in 2014 and has been coordinating it every year since. The SFA has been like a second family to her. She is proud to serve as a board member and hopes to provide others with the same sense of community that it has given her.
